Re: Oldschool Music

In no particular order: Quake had a bunch of awesome tracks (NIN, so that's a given XD) but this one was probably my favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGYkyhe_7vY Others already touched on some of my favourite iD songs but for me, at least, The Imp's Song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rP...

Re: World-specific songs?

Yeah, I think that's a little bit unrealistic; having the songs matched to a level archetype instead of a single level is, at the very least, somewhat more doable. 'Specially cause it doesn't necessarily mean you have to use each song for only one of those. Exclusion would be on the basis of the wor...

Re: Track Editor (Sky Tracks)

Descendent Studios is another team that's working on a UE4-based game and they came up with some solid kind of plan to release a full map and mission editor to their players. I'm not fully aware of the specifics of what they mean to do, as they've only done a small part of that at the stage of devel...

That's not you is it? :P
I think the song you linked to is at least a little too happy-sounding for a dark gritty future-racer.

Re: Elimination mode is shait (in multiplayer)

Throwing this out there -- it's a rough idea and it certainly still has problems, but maybe it's better? So how 'bout... You start the race with ten (or some other number) points. Any time a player would be eliminated they lose a point (or number of points) instead. When any player loses all their p...

'Cause I didn't have a huge logical problem with that one. :P
As long as its feasible in dev time and effort I'm all for it.

Yeah I like the deeper engine sounds. These are the sort of beasts that should roar. :)

Re: So... is there a connection between planets?

Not sure about planets in the sky unless they all are supposed to orbiting each other. Having them still look that big otherwise is just too big a break from reality (since objects that massive couldn't get so close without gravity going the rest of the way). The real gotcha here is people don't hav...

Re: Do we have any 3d moddelers/animators/sound designers, that are bored here?

Depends on the game and my level of free time which, lately, has been changing rapidly without letting me know first. :P
And sound design on the level of "stuff going into a game" is really involved even compared to writing music.

In my own experience it isn't really. Not unless your internet goes down mid-conference call.

Re: Do we have any 3d moddelers/animators/sound designers, that are bored here?

My audio work is focused more on the music/live engineering side but I've dabbled a bit with sound design.

Re: POLL: Let's talk about vehicle acceleration off the line and the ability to get back in the race

Dunno if I'm late to this but I wanna throw in my two cents. It's not about realism, but I like the way the slow start builds up suspense and tension and makes the vehicle feel powerful -- more like a war machine than a racecar. The starting grid especially is a great establishing moment that makes ...

Re: Those dam mines ;)

At worst that could discourage players, especially new players (or anybody at low health for that matter), from using powerups. My gut feeling is that it's the kind of punishment that could be easily replaced with something positive or at least not so blatantly negative. Positive feedback is general...

Re: Track Variety

Sounds like you're looking for a game called Trackmania. Just saying. I get the sense that the matches in this game kinda need to be longer than in an average racer for the whole combat part of the racing to play out properly, I think. And I imagine too many jumps and loopings on a track could play ...

Re: Those dam mines ;)

Don't feel like that would make much difference since the situation where a car can flip in five seconds is probably much rarer than the situation where a car runs into a mine. That could be a good thing though. If the mine stays active after being dropped and doesn't expire after a lap it would mak...

Couple of GRIP-like songs

You guys might've heard from me in a couple places that when I heard the soundtrack to this game it gave me a couple ideas of my own. One of those ideas I ended up deciding to mix with other influences and some guitar, but the other, "Winged Beast", stayed true and became my first try at a...

Re: Some weapons, especially mines are boring

If there's going to be a limit on mines placed it would make sense to have a button (well, a combo probably) to discard a powerup you don't want and thus free up that slot for a new one. Otherwise your inventory could end up flooded with stuff you can't get rid of, and not using powerups at all is e...
