You can use a lot of the names already given, but I would connect each manufacturer to a type of brand-naming. For instance: Omni-Dynamics company. For your standard parts and things. Has some more run-of-the-mill names that have some resemblence in the name. Similar to Samsung using the Galaxy, App...

Just make up some mumbo jumbo about a temporary frictionless surface (or lowered friction surface) through some kind of magic physics, this explains why it can be used on already iced planets etc.

I liked this one, but I mainly liked the RC version where you teleported your enemy behind you rather than you towards your enemy. Also, flipping? Maybe instead of activating people's breaks, you can force them to use all the powerups they have.
This makes it safe(r) to pass them by, and if they have speed powerups or similar you could cause them to use them at terrible times.
