Problem using a controller

Postby Sword » Fri Jun 17, 2016 2:08 pm

Hello, long time Rollcage fan here, just downloaded the Grip early access. Now I'm also new to Steam and the only other game I've got on it is Streets of Rage which works fine with the controller, so I don't know if this might be a problem with Steam, Grip, or the controller. I'm using a PS4 controller if that means anything.

I think grip only works with X-Input controller at the moment. There might be tools to convert the contollers input to x-Input

I'm using an XBox 360 controller, and so far i've never had any problem playing Grip with it.
I hope you can use your PS4 pad asap (and by the way, how good is this controller? i had older PlayStation consoles but never tested the PS4 gamepad) ;)

Ok thanks guys, I'll try a 360 controller then. PS4 controller is super comfortable for me, wasn't much of a fan of the PS3's shoulder buttons so it's a massive improvement. I have small hands though so someone with big hands might think differently.

Simply download a DualShock 4 driver, made by 3rd parties. I personally suggest this one: http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-ScpToolk ... r-Reloaded

Light, once you install it, you'll never see it again basically. I use it for both my DualShock 4 (every PC game, including GRIP) and DualShock 3 (DS3 for PCSX2 emulator, pressure sensitive buttons after all).

I used DS4Windows with my PS4 controller. Otherwise it doesn't work in any games

It does work in games that support DirectInput and re-binding the keys. Basically every DS4 drivers includes an x360 controller emulator in it, so the input type becomes Xinput, along with games seeing it as an x360 one (which tends to give 100% compatibility).

On that subject, would be nice if the PC version could have an option to select PS4 button prompts, not go only automatically depending on what controller is detected.

There now is a new beta client for steam that allows configuration of Dualshock 4 controllers to be configured just like steam controllers.
Since my Steam controller works fine with Grip I think the Dualshock 4 will too.

Ok, I'm also using 360 controller (wireless version but I guess it doesn't matter) but I have a problem with the dead zone... I think. While touching nothing but accelerate even on a flat track my car tend to make a left turn once in a while (not a minor adjustment like the stick would be off center, but a more hard left). It does not happen in any other game. I will check today if this also happens with d-pad left-right settings or is this only analog stick related.

Ok, solved somehow. First thing I did in the game with controller was to change steering left/right from default d-pad-left/right to left-analog-stick-left/right and that made the mess. Now I know that the d-pad-left/right let you to steer with the analog stick too. It has a minor disadvantage: I can't use d-pad-left/right for anything else...

Glad your problem is solved, but it's weird that you had to remap buttons, i don't remember changing anything about this. Anyway, the important thing is that you can now enjoy the game like you want to.

I'll take a look at the gamepad remapping. You're saying that you can't remap the D-pad?
