Camera distance

Postby aidenir » Mon Nov 30, 2015 2:46 pm

Really loving the game so far, you really managed to capture the exitement of rollcage, even though most of us who played it are quite a bit older now.

One suggestion I would like to see further down the line is to control the camera distance from the car. After 3 races I often felt that the camera was right in the rockets, and quite low, so its often difficult to see anything of the track.

I second remarks on the cam, differently though.

Overall it could be a tad further from the car (my feeling), that being said:
  • speed boosts could use a "cam lagging behind" effect and staying that way till the end of boost, helping with the field vision
  • accelerations from 0 or a braking action could use a brief "cam back" effect too (then back to normal when cruise speed established)
even subtle, 'might enhance the effect of accelerations (speed feelings are already quite there)

You can adjust the camera (a little bit).
I'm playing with the XBox 360 Gamepad, using the D-Pad UP/DOWN.

Yes, it was the first thing I noticed, camera is too low, especially in an open scene. Maybe there could be some dynamic height. But I like that feeling of driving really big car - I think it's much better than original Rollcage, maybe because of the camera distance.

Yeah the camera is far too low when the car is in the air, it would be nice for it to FoV out and look down on the car so you can actually see what youre doing, instead of having the camera try to bury itself into the ground like some terrified desert gopher

This is on the to-do list, but I'd like to comment on Queadah's second suggestion.
I agree that it would be a cool effect, but it'd need a toggle as I imagine it could be quite nauseating as well.

Something subtle, a light back kick then a soft return to normal focus, nothing too overwhelming.

I'm pretty sure you had that acceleration kick on any acceleration in RC1, kick turning in a longer, larger perpective de-zoom during speed boost powerups/acceleration panels.

Hi!

Any way to change the FOV or the camera distance?

- and + on keyboard. For pad controls, check in the game settings ;)
