[READ] Mid Air Contols

Postby Gabba » Mon Nov 30, 2015 3:42 pm

Hi,

I know this wasn't in the original Rollcage Series, but you could think about Mid Air Contoling, by the Thumbstick.

Either controlling the whole Car, or by controlling the Extruders.

Cheers,
Gabba

sry but PLZ NO xD there is air control and i dont feel like its a good feature. IMHO its weird that those giants can move with precision in the air.

I'm pretty certain there is some degree of control mid air. I somewhat agree with WROB3L that its weird these cars would have such precision despite their size, but sometimes fun comes before logic, and I feel that having no control at all would suck real bad. Its so reqarding when you're going 400kph and manage to land a triple flip perfectly :D

lol I'd rather see implemented a 50% chance randomizer on landing stunts like that ;)

There is already air control I think. Not too much, but there is

You are able to control your car mid-air with the steering controls when not accelerating. Please correct me if I am wrong.

In my opinion the current mid air control is enough. It doesnt give too much power to turn mid-air, but it allows you to correct your position for landing if you have a big jump. These cars are humongous after all, I don't want them to feel like toys in the air if given more air control

not saying planes are toys.

I kinda like the air control. Gives it enough where you can adjust it so you don't go flipping out from landing on your side but not too much where its precise.
I didn't even know what was in the splatter pack before I bought it.

Agreed! More air-control would ruin it, those are huge metal beasts, not birds!

More or less true, but even those beasts can have small thrusters (and i'am quite sure i saw some) and manuver in mid air little bit using them ;)

I'm a bit late, but dropping my idea anyway.

Now that we're talking about different tiers, why not base mid-air control on that?

The Tank, the heavier tier, could not have any mid-air control whatsoever, the Normal tier could have the mid-air control that we have now, left and right, and slow, and the Fast tier could have little thrusters that let you, not very fast so it doesn't ruin the immersion, turn mid-air in all directions.

Just and idea though.
I'm Spanish god dammit sorry for my effing grammar jeez.

I also think more air control would detract from the gameplay.

That said, I disagree with the idea that it would be illogical if these huge beasts had air control. It's actually illogical that they don't. If they have enough downforce pressure to produce 1G of lift, then they're lifting-body aircraft as soon as you invert the downforce. There would be so much aerodynamic force on the vehicles that you'd NEED to have air control of some kind just to keep them aerodynamically stable in a jump.

Again, though. Gameplay first. Too much air control would detract from the experience.

The control as is, isn't all that great or ''all fixing''.
It may be wierd (debatable for sci fi cars), But the game is unforgiving enough as it is. And though we are taking steps to make it more forgiving. Some slight air control will allow people to not constantly "crash and burn" for slight tilts. In addition, it doesn't kill gameplay for X seconds everytime you leave the ground.
Obey the rules!

I think that if you could boost sideways and up/down that would be good. Similar to the kind of controls that Rocket League gives you. Otherwise it is very easy to hit objects at high speed and end up at the back of the pack. The cars should also be heavier and rectify themselves quicker. Combined with the boost that would decrease the need for arbitrary air control and increase survival through turns.

This makes racing easy and colliding whit object is not as punishing, so no.
I like that part in Grip where you need to track and master it, if you make a mistake it your fault and you have to correct yourself before it's to late.
This not Rocket League I saw to many people comparing Grip and RL, they are basically earth and sky.
Science WINS again!!!
Then they opened a portal to another dimension and kidnapping the locals.
The pissed locals are head enough and strike back.
and then... ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE

some light in air control might be fun, like Nitro Stunt Racing which switches pedals to attitude control in flight while wheel directs left/right:
