Alternative Weapon Use

I'm sure many of you that have played the unreal tournament games will kinda know what I'm talking about.
I want to suggest an alternate way to use each weapon by holding down the corresponding button.

for example: if you hold down the button, the machine gun could be changed to a single shotgun blast, or the rocket can be fired behind you but only in a straight line, or the shield could be used as side bumpers to shove others away. (just my ideas, but you could use your own instead)

I dig it. Would add more depth, and we were already thinking about having rear firing missiles and making the shield change orientation.

I REALLY like the idea of the shotgun alternate fire.

+1 shotgun.
Shotguns are always awesome.
Add a nice charging sound effect and have it charge for a second or two before it sprays the entire f*cking track in a hailstorm of pellets and I'll name my firstborn GRIP.

a lot of games end up being a mess when you start too add too much stuff and it becomes hell of a lot of work to balance things.
keep it simple.
RC was deep enough with what was possible with its weapons.

I like the idea. It would also solve the problem how the shield could be rotated when it doesn't block a slot. You'd simply decide where it faces before using it. This would give the player a motivation to not activate it as long as possble, instead of activating it right after pickup. The shield could then also be stackable, having one infront and one behind the car.

OR you could combine 2 identical pickups into 1 to make, say, a lvl2 shield (shield + shield = back + front), a lvl2 missile (missile + missle = the #1 player destroyer), a lvl 2 minigun (the shotgun idea) ?

(missile + missle = the #1 player destroyer) The assassin is a different weapon than the scorpion, but perhaps quad missile is a better idea.

Yeah we've got a thread already somewhere outlining our potential plans for pickup stacking. I designed the shield the way it is now so that it could be used on the back and front. So if you picked up a single shield, you could designate it to the back or the front, then if you picked up the shield again it would add one to whichever end you didn't have one on.

Similar idea for the missiles. You can stack it twice to get three missiles.

Machine gun is similar in that it's a single barrel if you pick it up once, then double barrel if twice.

But for now, we just have the "weapons power" option in the setup menu to determine which you get. This is just temporary for the private release.

I like the idea of alternative weapon usage similar to Blur. For shield it would work nicely if pressing up and fire, it goes to the front. Decision whether to use shield for mines and assassins or against miniguns and rockets. Alternative use for boost and mines could potentially work as in Blur. But each pickup wouldn't need to have this feature. Mainly for those that makes sense.

Yeah that would be awesome!

Machinegun Could change into 1-shot shotgun
Rocket into rocket that is faster but deals less damage
Assassin into somethin like a sniper rifle
Mine into a bomb

and about the power-ups
Shield could be deployed in front
Turbo could be used as a jump jet.

I dig it.
