thrust effect

Postby shadyx49 » Fri Aug 18, 2017 9:36 am

I know that the cars behave like normal cars and that they accelerate through the power of traction of the wheels but what if the jet engines do actually provide thrust independently from that of the wheels this could actually give the option of maintaining your speed while in mid air, I like the idea of having two types of engine in the car, it makes sense because wheel traction provides high torque for high acceleration and the thrust effect provides high speed.

err... it's already the case!
Both the magnetic wheel coupling AND jet thrust provide forward movement ;)
As a matter of fact, we do have that thrust when airborne (rigs accelerate in mid air... as said in every event loading screen)!

It would be nice if the vehicles hit the wall and get damaged and hitting each other.

You're slightly off topic here :P

as far as I know the physics of the car are programmed to only drag when it is connected to the ground so when the car is in the air the only force that move it is its momentum and the force of gravity, you can slow down though by breaking mid-air but you can't maintain the thrust so that it behaves like an aircraft, it is probably set intentionally to maintain a certain behaviour of the car close to that of the classic rollcage games witch is actually fun and challenging enough to be fair, its just worth noting these nerdy details for such physics challenging game that I love for this particular reason.

Quote from 1.0.9 patchnotes. It didn't change since.
Thrust just doesn't push you into the direction the car is facing, but the direction it is already moving as it helps with handling quite a bit.
Spoiler: show
