Power Winch like the Batmobile’s

the power winch can be used to pull up behind other cars or tear down obstacles like the Batmobile’s :mrgreen:

Do you mean this as a power up or as a gameplay change?
I would rather have it as power up then as gameplay mechanic.

PS: for power up you should post it in the "Weapons and Power-ups" thread

Like a harpoon you shot in front of you, then when you pass the floating sign or building you speared you pull it down behind you? I like it. It would be nice if it was close enough to guarantee you an explosion boost (assuming those will be in Grip). Or someone boost past you and you spear them to either tag along or slow the down. Or you can use it to grapple around a corner at high speed, a la Jet Moto. The possibilities are countless.

Yeah I've got an idea for a Snare/grapple power-up but it's reallllly not an easy thing to implement. Have to wait and see

How hard can it be?? just hook the one thing to the other thing!! :geek:

I think the grapple could be implemented as an ability rather than a powerup. Hitting one button would deploy the grapple automatically near some kind of magnetic plate on tight turns to go over obstacles. You hold the button down right when jumping to make a 90 degree turn (the centrifugal force take care of the rest) at the side of a building or a cliff and then release it to make a successful landing at the other side (giving you timed it properly). I must admit the e3 gameplay video of the new spiderman game was inspirational here :lol:

There is no problem... just solutions. An inventory could do the trick, you hold one button down and you can select dozen of abilities. Or an action button that active different abilities depending from which trigger you're close to.

Then you're getting really far from GRIP's identity as a racer. It's a spiritual successor to Rollcage, not Carmageddon or a Spiderman game.

As much as I like the power winch idea, I don't think it'd add much to the gameplay. You want destruction (later ;p), we already have missiles. You want to catch up, we have speedboosts/nitro and potentially the Ram Raider.
Assigning an ability slot to that instead of making it a powerup would be even crazier, 'cause we don't want to overload the controller layout.

PS: RIP 2 years later still no destruction. Time 2 fast 4 quick.

@Broscar I'm not too much a fan of it either, was just trying to develop the topic further to put all possible ideas on the table. ;)

Targetable destructibles are very close, and we've already done testing with scripted destruction. We're over the hump, now it's time to add it to levels
