Powerup suggestion: Void

The "Void" powerup would function as a dumbfire single shot, probably hitscan, with a charge time of about 1/4 of a second, if it hits the opponent's car, it fires off any powerups they have stored, simultaneously; making them 'void' their reserves.
You can make them waste that Raptor they're saving for the overtake, or Firestorm boost them into a ledge or outcrop.
If there are two identical powerups stored, one is simply dumped, as the other is fired off.
It could backfire, of course, you'd need to be in line with them to make it work, you could drop their Quaker into your face or something equally comedic.
Messing with opponents in this way could add an extra layer of strategy, players may avoid saving the firestorm for the straight as it could be activated for them while threading tunnels.
Just an idea, though, the implementation would need quite a bit of testing for it to work properly.

This is a great idea. I dig it, big time.

Needs a better name though. How about override?

Haha, definitely, Override is a far groovier name. Void sounds like a singularity grenade or a portable black hole.

This seems like a really great idea for a weapon. The mayhem it would cause would be fantastic to watch.

maybe, when carrying a void/overdrive other vehicles holding weapons would glow in some way? (like a holographic overlay) the colour could vary depending on if they are carrying an offensive or defensive weapon i.e. blue or red (could flicker if carrying both). might be a bit much but would ad to the strategy; this feature could be an upgraded version of the weapon.

Could the void/overdrive also have a second function for the od occasion that no nearby car is carrying a weapon? maybe it could enhance your own weapon for a brief time or stack with a current weapon to enhance it slightly???

But yeah, this is a great idea and would ad a level of strategy :ugeek:

I think the general idea for such a pickup is really nice.
Only 2 things:
  • I think pickup number on tracks should increase to play nicer with this
  • make that override pickup the lvl2 of something in the weapon stacking tree so there's no weapon denial spam
