symbol for the powerups

Postby RabbiT » Sun Feb 21, 2016 11:20 am

maybe the powerups can have symbols for each use.. like a different symbol for a mine , or a missile, or machine gun... :/

I think he means like the pickups in blur
You can see what those are on the track before you pick them up and from the footage that i have seen the same pickup always respawns in the same place

If this is what he means, then I'm conflicted if i want it in the game...

in my opinion part of the game is not knowing what pickups enemies got and trying to plan acording to what they might do, visible pickups would let a (player) opponent behind you see what you picked up

I believe it's working well in Blur because the position of the pick-ups is pre-determined (no randomization).

You have sections of the track containing say only turbos, so that everyone have the chance to get one.
If there is only one turbo available, the track designer can put it in a hard place to reach, so that you might have to change your route to take it at the cost of extra risk (i'm not expert at all in Blur though - I guess K.Mac would be more able to tell us about it :P).

If it's randomized, either you are in front of the other cars and you have the choice - either you are behind and have to deal with the worst possible power-up.

Random FTW. It makes the racing that much more exciting and less of the "learn the track, steal the must ups or lose". Let's be honest, if there's no randomisation to the combat system, you'll come to a point where the person that gets the start on the "perfect route" will win and no one will be able to do a thing. Random prevents that quite effectively, though of course since it's RNG... it may happen that the lead will be even bigger. But the latter is gonna happen once in a million, if not less.

Green PowerUps

Postby maleficmax » Sun Oct 23, 2016 4:36 pm

Hi ppl!
Thank you for this awesome game!
Here is something about powerups. Why are they all the same? Maybe it will be better to use at least different colors for different weapons? So there will be more struggle and less random.

Merged your post with the existing topic about it.

Pretty sure there was another more lengthy discussion about it.. But the main ideas are there

No, if respawn will be random. So you will have random pickup every time in this particular respawn point.
But now it will be possible to plan for a few seconds forward if you see something you need.

This would actually make it harder for someone behind you to catch you. You can just deny him every potential pickup that would be dangerous for your lead.
