Redout: aka How to make a GOOD WipeOut successor

Postby Cybruiser57Péter » Sat Sep 03, 2016 10:59 am

Disclaimer: This is not advertisement or any similar (bullshit), so let's get down into it.

On youtube I following a youtuber called TotalBiscuit, who uploaded a video about Redout.
The game basically WipeOut = hovercrafts, crazy speed, guns and powerups (less then Grip).
I don't have any knowledge about WipeOut series, so don't know it's good or bad, but the visuals are pretty, craft models are awesome, tracks are sexy.
I think Grip have a competition.
Science WINS again!!!
Then they opened a portal to another dimension and kidnapping the locals.
The pissed locals are head enough and strike back.
and then... ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE

I played it for about 2 hours and it's gorgeous, it's not a Wipeout game but more a F Zero-like (no weapons).
I don't think it will bring competition to bring because it's not the same public who is targeted, I think that the game will bring players to GRIP actually, those who wants weapons and destructions instead of pure speed and driving
If you want to be grammar nazi to me, just do it, that will improve my english :3

+1, exactly what I wanted to say

It's like comparing Wipeout and Rollcage. Just not the same category.
Rollcage is better of course
Because I'm even more boring than Broscar -> Rules of the GRIP forum

That's why I cringe when someone opens a thread on steam forums about Grip not being Wipeout xD

So it's good, then? I saw it pop up on Steam and thought it looked great, but I can't justify dropping $35 on it right now, with other games I've been waiting for for months about to release. I'll keep it in mind for the Winter Sale then.

Just got to class 2 ships and its pretty damn good so far. I feel like its a great mix between wipeout and F-zero. The sense of speed and rollercoaster like tracks feel like they came from F-zero X and GX and a little form Wipeout Fusion. While the technical aspect of racing is clearly from wipeout. Only issue I have at the moment and this might just be me or the fact I'm still early on in the game is that its a bit too easy at times. Great game otherwise. 8/10
I didn't even know what was in the splatter pack before I bought it.

I heard something about: playing this game whit keyboard and mouse is a really nightmare (nearly impossible) and controller is highly recommended, because the game control has a "unique feature".

Oh yeah. The game uses both joysticks to steer. The left one controls normal steering while the right one controls the pitch of the ship and allows you to strafe. A little weird at first but you adapt to it really quickly.

I have read on steam their description of Redout, they say the made this game as a tribute to f-zero, wipeout and ghem... ROLLCAGE.

so in my eyes they are enemies. :x

Well, it's nice of them to cite Rollcage. If the game becomes popular, people will start looking for the cited games - and when they search for Rollcage, they might find GRIP by the same occasion ;)

From my research in the past, I understand that Psygnosis and ATD was bought out by Sony Entertainment Europe and merged into Studio Liverpool, which then went on to make the WipEOut games. Not sure exactly which team was involved in all that, but an interesting tidbit...

Anyone here up for a multiplayer session? Can't find many games and the players that are in them are not very good.
