Game recommendations for GRIP fans

Postby Tathendal » Sat Oct 29, 2016 5:52 am

I want to hear what other games you like besides GRIP and Rollcage, that a GRIP fan could potentially like. I am not looking for retro/very old titles here (and since there is a topic about those already) but ofc you can mention them if you want to. I want to start with two titles:

Intergalactic Road Warriors
A 2D combat racer. The sensation of speed is magnificent in this game. Though its in early access and development seems to be slow, I have very high expectations towards this game since the driving itself feels really good already! There is local splitskrieg and online is planned.

Defunct
A mix between some sort of adventure/exploring and racing. You are a one-wheeled robot whose engine is broken and you must only gather speed with gravity (you can increase your personal gravity at will) and there are also consumable boosts for uphills or just going fast. Also in this game, you can go pretty fast!

Thanks for all recommendations I tried many already!

Distance I have not tried, looks cool but how does the driving feel? Does it feel a little bit like anti-gravity racers (because to me it, for some reason, looks a little bit like it might feel like that)? Can you feel the car's mass when turning in a somewhat similar way as in GRIP? For example when doing the flips the car looks like it doesn't have weight at all (this might be because it seems that you have 100% air control of the car)? Hmm I hope you get what I mean:D

@Tathendal

In Distance you got thruster. So in theory you have full air controll but they are mostly for short corrections or when you are flying. Yupp you can fly but not always only in sections where it is enabled.

Dont know what a anti gravity racer feels like but have to pay attention to where is up and down. Sometimes you dont realize that your driving under the track and slow down to much which resultes in falling off the track (= dying and respawing)
If go fast uphill its possible to lift off so you have to slow down or use thrusters. The faster you go the slower the car moves which is kinda realistic.

But distance is one of those games where the track is always 100% flat. So there is no suspension. Its not possible to crash into other racers but the tracks can be dangerous enough. Its basicly a survival trick racer and even more futuristic than grip. A mix of tron and grip.

Heres a very nice official level Monolith (i die many times in one run you will see why)
and one of the many awesome community levels

A great thing about distance is that you have a lot of controll, you always can do better and its never up to luck.
