RC[S2] & Firebugs: Favorite Small Features?

Postby DriftRacer14 » Mon Jan 16, 2017 4:16 pm

Rollcage, Rollcage S2 and I'm guessing Firebugs definitely had a lot of amazing and large features, but what about the small ones that some might not notice?

For instance, I loved the tiny fact that the Rollcage tires in S2 underwent a visual change on a per-race basis to fit whatever terrain you were racing on best. It's a small detail, but it's a nice one, and seems to be thought out quite well.

What small features in Rollcage, Rollcage Stage II, Firebugs, or even GRIP have you noticed that you think others haven't, or that made you crack a small smile? :)
OK, tell it to me straight... in Rollcage Stage II for the PS1... was Winter Wonderland II even possible to Gold Medal...? :cry:

Retreating is Running Away. Falling Back, however, is simply Advancing in a Different Direction.

Thats what was so great about it.

And the explosions were hiding how all structures realisticly dissapeared into the ground. Doesnt matter explosions are fun.

Was recently playing Red Faction Guerrilla and I really like how they handled big structures falling down and crashing into pieces. Combo of physics and trickery

@Chris

Oh yes that game has i think the best destruction engine i have seen so far. One of my all time favourites.

Maybe also a example to learn from since they abandoned the idea of freely destroying the map like in Red Faction 1 and changed to destructible structures. Worked much better.

I liked the character of RC1 - how the music, style, locations all ad to it. Special mentions to the opening cut scene (maybe not a small detail), the menu theme (bad ass) and vehicle and driver designs (for me these stand head and shoulders above RC2).

Very, very impressive game in that regard. We could certainly learn from it

In rollcage 2 there was the sign above the finish line that gradually switches to the map logo after the race starts. I allways found that detail quiet amazing. It was made by attention to detail after all what can i say... ;)
