Death's Court! (With illustration)

Postby Icyclez » Mon Sep 05, 2016 2:52 am

This is my adaptation of a classic video game game mode in GRIP. I drew it out!

(So after some super cereal deliberation with my 9 year old sister we decided to call it Death's Court. cause death + escort led to Death's Court  )

Death's Court

  • Objective: Disable the Priority Target
  • Attackers use Power-Ups to destroy the Priority Target
  • Bodyguards/Escorters help fend off incoming Attackers the best they can, aiding the Priority Target/VIP/Escortee reach their destination
  • Due to the strategic and battle inducing nature of this game mode, easily accessible boost padded tunnels are placed on either side of the main track so both Bodyguards and Attackers can get back in the action in the case they're veered of course, destroyed, or would like to situate themselves infront, behind, or beside the Priority Target. Note: The Priority Target can not access these tunnels as it would defeat their strategic purpose.
  • The game ends when the Priority Target reaches their destination or is destroyed
  • In my opinion the Priority Target should be able to use power-ups, but not every single one that the Bodyguards and Attackers have access to (I'm just thinking some Power-Ups such as the speed boost may create an unfair advantage for the attackers. At the same time it could be another tactical tool so it really depends on what you guys would think is best and the power-ups we get in the future).

(Pardon my horrible handwriting)

My inspiration for this game mode came from many other games such as GTA5 and Ace Combat that have escort type missions/modes. This was my take on that mode for GRIP. It's a little vanilla right now but I feel like with the right execution and some great ideas from the community it could become something really cool for the devs to look at and/or get ideas from.

Any and all ideas/feedback are appreciated :D !

Actually it's similar to the Team Deathmatch idea (or cats and mouse) : two teams battle, each team has a runner, and all the other guys have to protect it. The runner who crosses the line first makes his team win.

The difference is that in your mode, there is only one runner. It's interesting, since it would make use of the destroyable feature.
Even the bodyguards/attackers could be destroyed. It would be fun.

Maybe the Priority Target should have means to recover the health - especially if the bodyguards and attackers can catch him quickly
Because I'm even more boring than Broscar -> Rules of the GRIP forum

So a Mad Max mode essentially.

We were thinking of something similar called Convoy, where you'd need to protect a large vehicle from incoming enemies (possibly even have a couple players using turrets on top of the large vehicle to help propel attackers)

Would be super cool, but it's a matter of resources available to dedicate to additional modes. We need to flesh out the current ones first ;)

Im all in for Mad Max and every other strange variation. BUT would this really use the strength of the game?

We need gamemodes where you need to be extremly fast for some strange reason. Downhill race?

Normal Game with cool and crazy maps and lots of destruction thats the real deal !

I 100% agree. Don't add game modes just to have more contend. The best part of Grip (to me) is the fast racing and explosive everlasting action. I already think that Deathmatch feels a little out of place. Biodome feels OK as it is big enough but the others... -nah.
I'd rather have 3 polished game modes than 10 half-baked ones.

+1 for a similar mode (convoy is a good idea). I think it would required some fresh map design = time = resource however it's worth digging.
Someone direct me to the donation button already X)
