Better results screen

Postby Broscar » Thu Mar 31, 2016 12:21 am

Right now the results screen is fairly barebones. Not a bad thing per se considering it's early status, but I figure it's worth discussing the possibility of having a more fun results screen, in part due to the devs shifting some of their focus on getting online multiplayer working.

Got a suggestion? Got feedback for another person's proposed implementation? Fire away.

Here are my suggestions:
Spoiler: show
Perhaps have it show a results screen at the end which sums up multiple set criteria, similar to how Killing Floor 2 handles it's results screen.
"Most flips | Most damage dealt in points | Fastest lap time | Fastest total time | Hit the most speedpads | Bumped the most people"

Or something alike WipEout HD's medal system, which shows any abnormal activities that occurred in the race (up to 3/6 medals or something, in multiplayer limit it so that it won't show multiple medals for a participant)). Give 'em silly names while you're at it.
"Made Daigo proud (last to first place in the last lap) | Natty (No powerups) | Blessings of the chilli con carne (used Raptor a lot) | afk (hit the barrier a lot) | Jealous (used a lot of leader missiles) | Mediocre (hit yourself with a rocket) | The One (was targeted by a weapon, but never actually hit) | Running in the 90's (Drifted a lot)"
This gives players more incentive to race (more rewarding; lessens the blow of not being in the top 3) and allows more experienced players to go out of their way in an attempt to show off (rewarding them whilst simultaneously increasing the odds of having them mess up (brings back some of the 'on the edge of your seat-danger' of Rollcage and gives others a better chance at beating the veterans)).

This is all in addition to the traditional leaderboard of course.
Speaking of leaderboards, how about this: two leaderboards at the end of the race. On the left: purely race time. On the right: purely combat points.
Leave it up to the individual players which they deem more important ;)

I'd say the entire race GUI is very barebones. Having all the statistics after race would be nice. You could implement the "medals" in a similar fashion that Battlefield 3 does the post-match results. So you have a results table with kills, deaths, points, ping and then another tab for assignments, awards, class unlocks, and weapon/score statistics.

In GRIP you could have on the results screen best lap time and overall race time along with points and ping if applicable to the mode. Then on the next screen the medal/awards that Broscar mentioned then on the next screen some miscellaneous stats, like amount of drift, percentage values of how much you drove in general and in this race on the ground compared with walls and ceiling. For example you drove 500km in total and 60% were on the ground, 24% on the walls and 16% on the ceiling, while in the race you drove 40km and 76% were on the ground, 10% on the walls and 14% on the ceiling.
Small things like this could really make the stat screen look good. And since there's no pesky open world to bother with, you can create a completely new screen for just the post-race results, instead of looking at the car driving. Would be useful for those that like to give their PC a bit of a rest in-between the races.

That 14% on the ceiling thing sounds pretty good, even moreso if a reasonably visually clean method can be found to compare it with other participants in a race :D
Not just because it's interesting statistics, but also because it gives players more insight into their driving style and it motives (crazy) people to try and push those statistics to their maximum.
I can well imagine Landvaarder and myself driving on the ceiling all the time just so either of us can claim the status of spiderpig, or you'll find Wrob3l swerving left and right on the straights just because he's trying to get his drift percentage the highest.

You can also add to those percentages how much of the distance was spent in the air. Put that into a circle like statistic, apply colours to different things and voila, you have a nice representation of those things.

Some other possible statistics:
- collision with other cars
- crashes (into environment)
- successful hits with missiles
- total amount of missiles shot
- mine hits
- machine gun hits
- time spent under influence of turbo
- clean turbo uses (as in didn't hit anyone and anything or wasn't hit by anyone or anything while under duration of the turbo)
- barrel rolls
- evaded assassins/missiles
- finishing position % (for example 20% 1st, 3% 2nd, 50% 3rd, 10% 4th, 0% 5th, 9% 6th, 4% 7th and 4% 8th)
- destroyed opponents
- destroyed yourself

This list can be easily expanded.

While we are at it, we could also have a stats menu of some sort. Just something to keep track of all of these stats overall.
Also I'd love it if we had a post race medal for the player that likes in the tailpipe the most.
Other stats
- How many times you took it up the tailpipe
- Total raptor bullets fired
- Amount of property damage dealt
- Weapon accuracy
- Time spent looking at stats.
I didn't even know what was in the splatter pack before I bought it.

All good stuff here guys. There will be a points system that takes into account a bunch of factors during a race, and you've made good suggestions. Just haven't implemented this stuff yet

End Race Summary

Postby Eurox » Thu Oct 27, 2016 9:44 am

Hi,

dunno if someone talk about it.
But i really like to see not just time in the end of race. Would be nice to see best laps of all racers and which car their use.)

Well, the subject was discussed, although not in the best section of the forum: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2002
